National Book Fund: Now Accepting 2012-2013 Applications!
We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2012-13 National Book Fund from teachers and schools committed to improving math achievement through implementation of the JUMP Math program. Last year, JUMP Math’s National Book Fund helped 188 teachers bring JUMP Math instruction to close to 5,000 students across Canada. If you would like to join the growing number of teachers across Canada who are benefiting from access to JUMP Math training and materials, please read on!
Program Goals
The National Book Fund is designed to support dedicated teachers who require financial assistance in order to implement JUMP Math in their classroom.
Who Can Apply?
Applications for National Book Fund support are invited from teachers in Canada who have embraced the JUMP Math philosophy and approach to math education and are committed to:
• using JUMP Math as the primary math resource in their classroom
• attending JUMP Math professional development by August 20, 2012
• working with JUMP Math to evaluate the effectiveness of the JUMP Math program
Teacher applications will only be considered after submission of a school application by the school’s principal (see application process below). We regret that we cannot accept applications from outside of Canada. Special consideration will be given to schools in high-need communities.
Benefits Provided to Successful Book Fund Applicants
If your application to the National Book Fund is selected, you will receive JUMP Math training and the student and teacher resources necessary to successfully implement JUMP Math in your classroom.
Professional Development: All National Book Fund teachers will receive free registration for a professional development (PD) workshop. By attending a PD workshop, you will gain a better understanding of the JUMP program's principles and how best to use the resources. Workshops are also an opportunity to discover the wider community of JUMP Math teachers. Attendance is compulsory for all participants who have not completed both the Introductory and Level 2 workshops within the past two years. Workshops are held in larger centres across Canada and offered online via 2-part web conference and you may register for any applicable JUMP workshop listed under PD on our website (we try to schedule at least two months in advance). Please note that training must be completed by August 20, 2012, or awards will be reallocated to other applicants.
Classroom Resources: Teachers who complete training by August 20th, will receive the following student and teacher resources.
• one set of JUMP Math Assessment & Practice books (Parts 1 and 2) for each student
• one Teacher's Guide for each grade you will be teaching in your classroom in 2012-13
• unit tests
• answer keys
• SMART Board lesson materials
Program Evaluation
Student and teacher assessments are an essential component of the National Book Fund program. These assessments are designed to provide JUMP Math with feedback on the effectiveness of its program. All information will be kept strictly confidential; teacher, student and school names will not be reported.
Program evaluation consists of:
• Completion of three brief teacher surveys:
- baseline survey to be completed by May 30, 2012 (approx. 10 minutes)
- mid-point survey in January 2013 (approx. 10 minutes)
- final survey on the program, including student and teacher experiences (approx. 15 minutes)
• Administration of two student attitude surveys:
- September 2012 and May 2013 (approx. 10 minutes each)
• Student math assessments:
- some teachers will be asked to administer student math assessments in September 2012 and May 2013 (approx. 30 minutes each).
The Application Process
Applications to the National Book Fund Program should be made online. If online submission is not possible for you, please contact JUMP Math to make other arrangements. There are two parts to the application: the school application must be completed by the school principal and the teacher application(s) by the individual classroom teacher(s). Teachers can submit their application prior to submission of the school application by the principal but their application will not be considered until a school application has been submitted.
The deadline for submission of both the school and teacher application is April 30, 2012.
Applicants will be notified regarding the outcome of their application in mid-May.
